Don’t Give Up Just Yet! There is Hope For Those of Us Looking at Foreclosure On Our Homes
November 30th, 2008 Filed under: Uncategorized — Foreclosure AuthorMy husband and I are one of a lucky few on our street whose home hasn’t been re-sold due to foreclosure. All summer long we have had to look at the empty houses lining our streets and wonder…did they get foreclosed on? When the honest truth of it is…they probably did. There are way too many for sale signs in the neighborhood for,at least half of them, not to be foreclosures.
The sad truth of it is, that many of those could’ve been avoided had they but known the loop holes. The banks won’t tell you because they make a profit either way…but now most banks realize the mistakes they made and that the economy isn’t getting any better and are more willing to work with people who are already occupying the homes…realizing that it is actually less of a hassle to work with those people than it would be to clean up the homes and make them presentable and still make some of the profits from the original price.
A lot of people are being told to re-finance, this only digs a bigger hole though for the consumer later down the road and some people are being told to take it out of their equity…what then will be left to re-coup on when you need to remodel or retire later on? A home is an investment, the American dream fulfilled for those of us lucky enough to earn one…But now the jobs in Indiana are suffering, as well as the rest of the country, and so are the homeowners who have lost those jobs. Everyone is saying that there should be more help from the government…America can’t wait much longer. But don’t give up just yet..There is hope.
Most banks will do what is called a “forebearance”, and work with homeowners to lower their monthly payments for 3 months at a time (like our bank) and you need to re-apply before the end of the last forebearance month to get an extension…depends on the bank you work with as to how many they will allow. The amounts left over are then attached to the back end of the original loan amount due (and of course, the % is added onto that amount too)…but you MUST do this BEFORE foreclosure proceedings have begun as they won’t usually work with you after this point… Hope that this helps some of you out there struggling like us to keep our dreams alive, not to mention a roof over our heads and food on our tables this winter.
And just a note…for all of you out there looking for a cheap home…keep in mind who had to give it up so that you could get a good deal…Sure it seems like a good bargain, but think of the FAMILIES that had to give up their hard work and dreams so that they could be yanked from under them because they lost their jobs without their consent and, therefore had to lose their homes in the process…so they could be re-sold to you. Fight for what is right and, if you believe in my words, let us pass a message of hope to those in need and stop the loss of homes in this country. Maybe together we can start a fund to save homes in our communities.
